A Plethora of Commissioners.

Certainly, it seemed very absurd for the Government of this colony to appoint 22 commissioners to represent it at the Indian and Colonial Exhibition. It was at that time understood that the Australian colonies would not appoint more than sis commissioners each. It now appears that New South Wales lias appointed seventeen commissioners resi dent in Great Britain and sixty six resident in the colony. If a lot of the colonially resident commissioners took it into their heads to go to London and appear at the Exhibition then New South Wales would be well represented indeed. And if the other Australian Colonics should go in for a lot of commissioners to be sent home, and Canada, the Cape, and a number of other places emulate the example thus sgt, then the Exhibition would be inundated with commissioners. lu the Exhibition building comsiouers would be plentiful as blackberries. They would be nearly as numerous as 11 Majors ” once wcje in Wanganui in the good old “ war times," when champagne and glory were to be enjoyed galore. Nay, these “ commissioners ” would swarm in London as thickly as “ J.P.’u ” now do in this colony The present Ministry have gone crazy in their exercise of patronage. What between Buckley’s queer and questionable “ J.P.'s,” BalLuOc's jobbing appointments, aud finally, this ‘■■■'mendons batch of new Exhibition commissioners, the colony presents a spectacle sad enough “to make the angel 1 weep.”
