The Matarawa Soiree.
To the Editor of the Standard. Sir, —Allow me a short spare in which to conlrailiet the Observer’s sttemoiil that there were “ seventy couples (lit) persons) at the .Malarawa dance on Friday night last. 1 do so simply because, bavin" in aid of onr school prizes Hie public would wonder what we would do with £l7 It's (which 70 couples at 5s would icpreseut) for school prizes. 1 am sorry to say tlnil owing to the \ cry Lad weather there were not half that number there and the affair barely paid expenses ;in fact had it not been for the Kindness of Messrs tiardner and Wims, who supplied the music gratuitously, the committee would have had to " shell out" themselves. The Observer’s veracity and concert reports is so well know n that had the dance not been held for the purpose it was, 1 should not have troubled you with (his letter. Trusting you will give it publication. 1 am, &e., Matiiiawi,
