Concert at Carterton.
The Ciioir of St Mark’s Church, Carterton, gave an excellent entertainment in Mr Bishop's Lyceum Hall, last night, which was fairly attended. The proceedings commenced with a glee, " The Chough and Crow,” rendered very nicely by the choir. Mr J., Wilson sang the “ .Skipper’s Flag " in grand voice. Mr Dollar who followed with “ The Village Blacksmith ” received a vociferous encore. Miss Bayne’s rendition of “ Golden Love ” was good, so also was Mr Proctor's violin solo “ Minuet." Mrs Samuel, whosc-singing was greatly admired, gave “ Punchinello” in admirable tunc and time. Mr Foley rendered the pathetic recitation of “ The Little Hero ” as none hut a thorough professional could, after which he gave a comical illustration of a young debutante’s first attempt, on “ Let Me Like a Soldier Fall.” Mr Potts then favored the audience with “ The Bugler" which lie sang very fairly. A duet on two pianos “Grand Caprice Hongrois " hy Mrs Seed on the one instrument and Mr Wilson on the other fairly brought down the house. After an interval Messrs Downard, Proctor, Dcllar and Potts gave the quartette “ The Chafers.” Mr Gayfcr then sang ' The Englishman' in good style, Mrs Seed follow ing with her much ?ulmired song “ Believe Me of all those Endearing Young Charms ” which received a rapturous encore ; Mr Proctor sang “Our Captain" and Miss Payne next sang “ Carrissima Mrs Seed following with a piano solo “ Dance Xegre,” Mrs Samuel with,” Just ns Well ” was received with great enthusiasm ; so was Mr Downard with his “ Pilgrim of Love.” Mr Foley then sang a splendid and suitable finale song which terminated the proceedings. The Carterton Brass Band under Mr Birrill performed outside during the evening.
