Cricket.
GREYTOWN V KURATIWHITI. This match, the first regularly arranged one of the season, was played on the Grey town ground on Saturday. The two teams although nearly all members of the Greytown cricket club, were selected from the residents of the town proper, and the residents of the suburb of Euratiwbiti respectively. As on this account nearly all the playing members of the Greytown cricket club were brought into requisition, some excellent cricket was the result The Euratiwbiti side were the most successful, because their fielding was the best, some rather loose fielding being done by the town members, although their batting in some instances was good. Cuff, who carried out his bat with 28, was the highest scorer *** Greytown, and W. Judd with 33, and H. 01 ware the batting champion* Hawke wun of Rutherford for Euratiwbiti. The bowim b . ■ • and G. Jackson fielded well for Greytown, and F. W. Jackson's longstopping was very good ; Rutherford took a smart left handed catch. The fielding oa the side of the countrymen was generally good ; H. The second innings of Saturday’s mateh, Greytown v Kuritiwhiti, will be played next Saturday, and a close finish is anticipated. The Greytown Cricket Club have received a challenge from the Surrey Cricket Club (Wellington) to play a match in Greytown on the Prince of Wales Birthday, (this day week). As tbe former club have accepted the challenge it is necessary that as much practice as possible should be indulged in.
