Tho following gentlemen have been selected as a team to piny the game of football against the Greytowu Private Baud on August Ist at Martinborough. Messrs Jno. McMnster, J. Tocker, C, Bidwili, F. Tully, G. Tally, Road, Eli Teinann, Harvey, J. Rosa, W. Thom is, W. Mitchell, H. Mitchell, P. Mannsell, Geo. Cameron. Emergencies—J. Cameron, J. Jackson, ami J, Monday. Arrangements have been made to secure the Old Town Hall for a ball in the evening.
The Martinborough Library now possesses a very good assortment of hooks, suitable for the tastes of till descriptions of readers. This institution must be a considerable boon to tho settlers in the out.ying districts. Mr Green, the custodian, is ever eager to further tho wishes aud intciests of tho subscribers.
It is reported that the red deer in tho Palnum district me getting far more numerous. Yesterday week (Sunday), Mr Maine, of Claremont, saw three stags together. A number of persons have been in the ranges endeavouring to hunt the animals, b.itdeeistnlking is, as yet, very little understcod among the settlers in these parts. Pigeons will now soon make their appearance in this district, as they appear iu great numbers during tho period the cabbage trees bear seed, a very favorable food for these particular birds.
Martinborough is not behind other towns in the AAhiirarapa for dancing, A very enjoyable dance la hold in the Old Town Hull fortnightly, on Saturdays, and one of these came off last Saturday evening. Constable Mackay anived at Martinborough from the Unit on Saturday. The constable has taken up his quarters now permanently in the town. Mrs Harrison's residence is now completed. It is one of the principal ornaments to the town, and rt-llecls great credit upon the builder, Mr AV. Ihmton.
