The Right Man.
To the Editor of the Standard. Sin. —The real question is, Which of the candidates is the right man to represent No 1 Groytown Ward ? I will give the ratepayers my opinion. The Warden should reside in the sub-section of the Board, and above all things should have no property or interest in any other sub-section of the Board : for if he has a large stake in another Ward it is hut human weakness for him to use his vote and backstairs influence. Yes, and the rates also of No 1 to bo spent in No 7 and 9 sub-section. The present election is a case in point. Mr Andersen’s whole interest is in No 1 Ward ; besides he is a thorough practical man. Mr Cameron’s main interest is in No 7 and 8 sub sections ; to elect him gives Nos 7 and 9 two members each, and disfranchises No 1 sub-section. It is the rule of the Board I believe for each Warden to have full control of the rates levied therein. What will prevent the rates of No 1 from being expended in Nos 7 and 8 sub-sections if the right man is not returned. Votes which have been promised without knowing these facts cannot be binding. I am, &<s., A BATEravini.
