The Band Soiree.

In speaking of the soiree bold in aid o( the funds of the i Greytown Private Band, on Friday night, in the Town Hall, wc fuel we aro treading on delicate (ground. It is not pleasant to hint that some of our fellow townspeople have in this instance failed in discharging a certain debt of gratitude, and perhaps we would bo out of place in doing so, ns it is more than evident that a largo portion of the townspeople do not delight in the flight fantastic sufficiently to patronise anything in the form of a soiree, although perhaps at the same time sympathising with the young mop who use such praiseworthy efforts nut only to acquire a most desirable attainment, hut also to give their services to enliven our bazaars, picnics, sports, Ac., during the year, with what mast be admitted by all hands to bo very ei editable music. Any person fully realising tiicse facts could not fail but to feel grieved that the appeal made to the public by the baud, together with their elaborate preparations, with the assistance of tho ladies and Mr and Mrs Reyuol Js, (who are invaluable as caterers), should have resulted financially in Midi deplorable results, through lax of attendance ; about twenty five couples only responded to the band's call, ami although the evening was a most enjoyable oim to the company present, we would have liked to have seen the ball ns densely filled as upon the occasion of the hospital soiree and other events. Messrs Lundqvist, Kaiseubcrg, and M. Yarn ham wore tho performers in the band, and it is not necessary to comment upon their aide services. Mr James Maguire most efficiently acted as M.C., with the same success as the band. The company left at an early boar, quite satisfied with the entertainment. The band would do well to arrange a concert, which might augment their funds and repair their loss of Friday night.
