Education Board.

The monthly meeting of the Education Board was held on Wednesday, and was attended by Messrs J. U. Blair (Chairman), Hou llandall Johnson, M.L.C., G. Beetham, M.H.U., T. Mason, and H. Bunny, and Dr Newman, M.HB.

Mr Braithwaite, Chairman of the Waihakeke (Wairarapa) Committee wailed on the Board to urge erection of a teacker’s residence, there being no lodgings available in the district for the convenience of the teacher. The matter was ordered to stand over for a report with regard t® the funds available for such purposes. The committee appointed to meet the Mastevton School Committee with reference to the proposal to establish a second school at the north end of the town reported that the meeting took place on the Dili inst. As a result, the committee recommended that as the present school was admittedly overcrowded, and the proposed additions were urgently needed, and as the Board was in fact already pledged to make these additions, they should be at ouce carried out ; also that as Masterton was rapidly increasing in population and extending at tiro north eud, a second school would ho required, and the committee recommeuded that a sum be put on the estimates next year for a second school, and that meanwhile the Masterton committee endeavour to secure a suitable site ; and further, that if a suitable building could be found for an iufaut school at the north eud, the Board should pay the rent and provide a teacher. On the motion of Mr Beetham, the report was adopted. In reference to the proposed infants’ school, the use of the barracks was offered at £ f per week, and the Wesleyan schoolroom and Bt Matthew’s schoolroom each at 10s per week, and the local committee recommended that the Wesleyan school be engaged. The Board adopted the recommendation. The following appointments were made : Teacher, Pahiatua, five applicants, D. M. Yeats ; teacher, Daletield, eight applicants, James C. Ward. An application was made for £5 for a sewing-teacher at Featherston. Granted The 3rd March was appointed for the election oi School Committees for districts which failed to elect committees at the recent elections.
