A telegram baa been received from Lord Wolseley announcing that a battle has been fought with the enemy at a place opposite Bueka, on the Nile, about 70 miles above Merawi, The Mahdites attacked the troops under General Earle on both flank and front, and a severe engagement ensued, resulting in the complete defeat of the enemy, scarcely any of whom escaped. General Earle and Colonels Eyre and Coyeny and eight men were killed, and four officers, including Colonel Wanchope, and 38 men were severely wounded. Lord Wolseley expects to he able to open the way to Berber without further lighting. Colonel Brackenbury has assumed command of the column in place of General Earle, and will continue the advance to Berber. In the battle near Bueka the Mahdites are estimated to have numbered 1500 men.
