Three Men Buried in a Tunnel.
On Monday afternoon a terrible accident occurred in a tunnel on the Wellington and Manawatu railway line near Paikakariki. Twelve men were working in it when an enormous mass of rotten rock broke throngb the timbers; nine of the men just escaped, and when they found that three of.their number weiemissing they commenced to work heroically to rescue the buried ones. After much labor they heard a faint voice behind the debris and they soon found an Austrian named Panzadetti, wedged in between two planks, which had miraculously preserved him from instantaneous death. A glass ol brandy was handed to him which he drank. It was half past one yesterday afternoon before he was rescued. Latest intelligence states that the Austrian was in a weak condition bat sensible. Tbe nature of his injuries are unknown. He was taken to a house in the vicinity, where he was attended by Dr Gillon. The trank of one of the otber men was got out, bat the legs were still unearthed. Nothing is yet known respecting the fate of the third man, bat it is almost certain that be is dead.
