ESCAPED PRISONER
STILL AT LIBERTY. KNOWS TE AWAMUTU DISTRICT WELL.
The prisoner, Colin William Glass, who made a sensational escape from Mt. Eden Gaol on Tuesday afternoon, is identical with the man arrested by the Te Awamutu police on a Paterangi farm and subsequently convicted of the -wrongful conversion of a motor car belonging to Mr A. E. Missen, of Hamilton. Later Glass was arrested while attempting to burgle Auckland city business premises, being captured on a roof top, and later sentenced, to five years’ imprisonment lor pointing a revolver at a police officer with intent.
Advices from Auckland indicate that Glass is still at liberty, and that the police thi-oughout the province have been instructed to keep a close watch for him. He is believed to have reached the Waikato by means of a lift in a passing motor car, but vigilance in the city and northward is not being relaxed. Glass is a veny clever criminal, with a knowledge of motor-driving, so that he could drive a car if he could obtain one. He is described as sft. 9in. tall, of medium build, with brown hair, blue eyes and fresh complexion. His nose is rather prominent, with a scar on the left side, and a brown birth-mark on the left wrist.
