WIAIPA COMPETITIONS. The Waipa Hockey Association's Empson Cup (men's championship), and Finch Rosebowl (ladies' championship) competitions were advanced a further stage on Wednesday afternoon, when the following games were played:— EMpgoN CUR Waratahs v. Pirongia: This game was played at Albert Park under the control of Messrs C. Davis and T. Finoh. Waratahs attacked solidly, but were beaten off, and a hot attack by Pirongia forwards ended when A. Bell shot a neat goal from the edge of the circle. A little later Barry raced up the line, and in a scramble in front of the goal he registered Pirongia's second goal. Waratahs settled down to steady play, in close formation, and soon G. Wood notched a goal. In the closing stages increased their score to three E. Bell netting. Waratahs tried hard to improve their tally, but the defence held, and the game ended m victor/y for Pirongia by three goals to one. At Paterangi the home team met •Ramblers, under the control of Messrs C. J. Spiers and A. Bowler. Paterangi proved too solid for the visi : tors and the game ended: Paterangi 4 (Bert Spiers 3 L. Karl 11). Ramblers 2 (McCullough and B. Gibson). W FINCH ROSEBOWL. Messrs C/ißeed and J. Horsley refereed the ladies' match, Hairim v. Pirongia, and some excellent play wfs witnessed, both teams showing SproTement on their previous games. Hairini eventually won by one goal 'Miss M. Cox) to ml.
