In future all goods sold in packages including sugar, flour and rice, made up fori sale during rush periods, will have to conform to the provisions of the Weights and Measures Act in reference to the marking of the net weight on goods sold retail in a package. This was the effect of an announcement by the Minister of Labour, the Hon. A. Hamilton, in Wellington yesterday. He said a number of cases had been discovered recently of abuse of the privilege whereby it is not necessary for the weight to be marked in such cases. He added that the new. arrangement would not apply to certain goods specially exempt by regulation.
