A Real Old-time Home.

It is only when one sees a real old-time house that one realises what building was (says an exchange). A house built to-day may appear smarter from the outside, but it is not made with the same timber. One of the real old-timers remains in Mangere, in Massey Road. It was built 73 years ago, and to-day is as good as the day it was first entered. It is two-storeyed. The joists above the first floor are of heart of kauri, 6in by 4in, and the uprights are strengthened by beams, 4in by 4in. The lining is also of kauri, as sound as the proverbial bell. The house looks as though it might still be as sound as a bell when another 70 years have gone by.
