5-YEAR-OLDS AT SCHOOL
“ RESTRICTION IS FALSE ECONOMY.” “We had hoped that this report would have contained congratulations to the Minister of Education on his long overdue decision to lift all restrictions on the entrance of the five-year-old children to all schools/ stated the annual repoi’t of the Wellington School Committees and Educational Federation submitted to its meeting last Monday night. “ Alas, such is not the position, and the Minister continues to disregard the appeals of the people who have realised the folly of excluding these young children from public buildings where the facilities await their education —either formal or informal—and the states are available for the teaching. It is time the Minister realised that this so-called economy is fast proving a piece of false economy legislation, and will ere long reflect- disastrously on the State educational system bv the alarmingly increasing number of private and denominational kindergarten schools.”
