CREAM CARTAGE
OVERLAPPING MUST BE CURTAILED. The Commissioner of Transport wrote to Wednesday's meeting of the Waipa County Council acknowledging the receipt of the clerk's letter of 16th instant. He stated that he was indebted to the Council for drawing attention to the overlapping of cream carting in the county, and that he would be glad to have it fully considered before the scheme for controlling goods services was complete. In the meantime he asked to be furnished with details regarding roads and services concerned in the overlapping. Cr Livingstone asked could a local body prohibit heavy traffic on all its roads. The clerk said that was the trend of the recent legislation. The engineer said the intention was to prevent duplication of heavy traffic services over roads that were not of a sufficient standard to carry that traffic. The chairman suggested that copies of the Council's correspondence on the subject should be sent to the Transport Board, so that it should know the local position.
Cr Livingstone said if the dairy companies would not curtail their: duplicated services it was time the local bodies did so. The Transport Board seemed to have the requisite authority. Cr Clarke remarked that it seemed to be a vital question affecting all local bodies.
Cr Johnson said the Transport Board asked for details of overlapping in Waipa county, and obviously it had the power to act as suggested.
