GOOD PROGRESS
IN WAIPA COUNTY. The following summary of works carried out from Ist May, 1931, to 25th May, 1932, was presented at yesterdays' meeting of the Waipa County Council by the engineer (Mr J. W. Civil):— Tn addition to general maintenance work the following work has been done: Forming new roads, 4 miles 40 chains; new metalling, 5 miles 48 chains: new gravelling and sanding, 3 miles; amount of metal supplied and carted, 14,371 cubic yards; amount of gravel sand carted from sand-pits for surfacing and re-surfacing, 46.914 cubic yards; concrete culverts laid, 9inch, 1129 lineal feet; 12-inch, 136 feet; 15-inch 92 feet; 18-inch, 136 feet; 24-inch, 300 feet; 30-inch, 204 feet. An engineering survey of the whole of the Great South Road, 30 miles 47 chains, has been completed, and all plans and quantities. With the exception of 11 miles. Avere also completed.^ Plans, specifications, and quantities were completed for two reinforced concrete bridges, one of a 40-foot span over the Mangapiko stream at Te Awamutu, and one of a 6-foot span and 210 feet in length over the Pumu Rivei*.
