FIRE BRIGADE
QUARTERLY COMPETITION FOR CUPS. Marked enthusiasm was shown at the Te Awamutu Fire Brigade's quarterly competition for the superintendent's cup, which was held in the Albert Park during the week-end.-The event, which brought into play ✓ the standpipe, 2 into 1 breeching piece, three 50ft. lengths of hose and one replace length, resulted in a very creditable win for Firemen C. Bowden (1 min. 22 sees.), with Deputy Superintendent Loomb second (1 min. 24 1-5 sees.). That all competitors showed a clean handling and control of the gear was evidenced by the low aggregate of penalties recorded throughout the event. The competition has now acquired an added interest owing to the fact that with two more events to go for the points prizes, three members, Messrs Loomb, Irwin and Bowden, are equal with 10 points each. Opportunity was also taken to compete for the cup donated by Fireman Kidd, which is competed for under handicap. This event, which also utilised the 2 into 1 breeching piece, was won by Foreman Irwin (1 min. 1 3-5 > sees.), with Fireman Swain second (1 min 9sec). Foreman Irwin, who started from scratch, gave a splendid exhibition and obtained a well-de-I served win.:
Superintendent Morris acted as starter and Mr W. Ryan acted as timekeeper, both officials acting as examiners.
