TOO MUCH SPORT
A NOTE OF WARNING. The opinion that it was not a right "thing to teach boys to expect the incidentals of sport to be provided free, nor for them to look to the Rugby Union for payment of travelling expenses, was expressed by the Lansdowne School Committee when the question of organised . school .games was under discussion at last meeting of the committee. The headmaster stated that so far the Headmasters’ Association had not yet decided whether they would conduct Rugby football this season. It was stated that the Wairarapa Rugby Union had withdrawn practically all its support to the primary , schools. The committee agreed that it was not the duty of the Rugby Union to carry the full financial burden of primary schools’ Rugby. It was a wrong principle to teach boys to expect to have all their sport paid for. It was better to restrict travelling than to make application to the Rugby Union for payment. Suggestions were made that members of the committee should undertake to arrange transport.
