RUGBY RULES

TO BE KEPT IN ENTIRETY. N.Z. UNION’S RULING. Th© management committee of the • New Zealand Rugby Union last Wednesday night decided to instruct affiliated unions that the rules of the International Rugby Board must be i observed in their, entirety, and also to instruct referees’ associations thai players must not be allowed to leave , the field at half-time, as to do so was contrary to the rules. ' The subject was introduced by MY H. S. Leith, who said that while a motion had been passed by the delegates at the annual meet.ng to the effect that the rules of the Interna- ; tional Rugby Board were to be adopted in their entirety, yet he noticed that sojme unions had notified that players were at liba'.fty to leave the field at half time if they so desired. The chairman, Mr S. S. Dean, sa.d he was glad that Mr Leith, had brought this matter up. as to leave the field at the interval was a violation of a Rugby rule, and would not be allowed. Other speakers endorsed this view, and it was decided to notify affiliated unions and referees’ associations that this rule must be strictly enforced. The chairman said he had _ been pleased to fiotihe that the Wellington Rugby Union had passed a resolution with a view to obviating the holding up of play on account of minor injuries. There was too much of? this kind of thing, he said. Players who received minor injuries should have them attended to on the side line while play 'went on, and there should be no stoppage of play for adjustment of dress. MIAOiRI TEAM’S TOUR. zWith ' a view to assisting country unions financially, it was decided to send a representative Maori team on a tour of the North Island this season. The Maori players will assemble at Palmerston to play the annual match for the Prince of Wales Cup on July 9, and the North Island tour will follow immediately afterward, the Maoris playing in turn at Wairoa, Poverty Bay, East Coast, - Bay of Plenty, Thames Valley, North Auckland, King Country and Waikato. The match against Wairoa will be played on.. Wednesday, July 13, and thereafter Sjjli'e matches will be played on Saturda&Yand Wednesdays. It was-tfefcided to inform the King Country Union that the New Zealand unions contemplated sending a Maori team this season to tour the North Island, which was considered a better way of helping country unions than by making a grant for country teams to tour.
