RELIEF OF DISTRESS

HOSPITAL BOARD’S PROTEST. (By Telegraph. Press Association.) HAMILTON, Friday. The opinion that it should be the duty of the Government to give relief to all those who were in distress through unemployment was expressed by Messrs A. Livingstone and W. : R. Lowry at the meeting of the Waikato Hospital Btoard yesterday. They cresidered that hospital boards should-be entirely relieved of such a duty:; ’- 1 The secretary stated that he "had telegraphed to the Minister of Employment as follows: “My board appeals to you to institute the new scheme im|mediately in the Hamilton and Huntly districtly to obviate the board having to give further assistance to unemployed during the stand down week next week. The board strongly objects to being responsible for further relief, having no funds for that purpose.” It was stated that the Minister had replied stating that the matter was having immediate consideration.'
