GERMANY INVITES U.S.A.

Germany has invited America to participate in the Grosser Preis von Deutschland on the Nuerberg Ring •in the Eifel Mountains, to be held July 19, 1931. There will be 30,000 marks for distribution among the winners besides a number of prizes of honour. Entries are open to all persons or firms in possession of an international competitors' license. The Nuerberg Ring, on which the race will be run, is the world's largest automobile race track, with four laps of 2,9, 21, and 29 kilometres length. It is nine meters wide, has 770 bends, and 700 meters variation in elevation, up-grades ranging from 17 to 27 per cent and down-grades up to 11 per cent. The track is in the Eifel Mountains, far from the traffic of big cities, but near enough to a number of large towns to be reached from there in a conviently short time. For instance, it is only 45 kilometres from Bonn, 70 kilometres from Cologne, 60 kilometres from Coblenz, and 110 from Trier and Aachen. Perched high on one of the "Eifel hills, around which the track is laid out, there is the old Castle of Nuerburg, after which the ring has been named. The track was started in 1925 as a means of giving work to unemployeed, and was opened to the public in June, 1927. The roadway of the 20 miles of track is perfect.
