BROADCAST OBJECTIVE. COMING OF NEW REGULATIONS. New wireless regulations will be brought into force shortly, announced the Hon. J. B. Donald, Postmaster General, at Urenui, on Wednesday, when opening a new post office. It was hoped before the end of the year that there would be a number of new broadcasting stations, so that when the scheme was in full operation every wireless owner, whether of crystal or larger sets, would be able to get in touch with one or other of the stations. It would then be practicable for every home in New Zealand to have a set of some kind and receive news and music. It was not proposed that each station erected would broadcast on each night, said Mr Donald. Some of the smaller ones would not be able to provide programmes each night, but on nights, say, that New Plymouth was not broadcasting they would be able to have a programme relayed from Wellington, Auckland or some other station. He hoped as a result that it would not be long before they would have 100,000 subscribers throughout New Zealand, and if they obtained that number they would be able to give a better service and provide better quality programmes. The Minister added that he had little to find with the Broadcasting Company, as he realised that it had done its best. It had had to break new ground and as was only natural, had to endeavour to get back again the money it expended. Broadcasting throughout the world had improved so much that people were calling out for the best, and as they were paying the piper they were entitled to get it. He hoped that before long they would get what they were entitled to.
