DOMINION GOODS

EXPENDITURE OF UNEMPLOYMENT FUNDS. HAMILTON, Friday. The executive of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce strongly opposes the proposal of the Unemployment Board to spend its funds on a campaign to further the sale of New Zealand goods, arid in the resolution it describes the proposal "as a scandalous abuse of the board's powers."

The president of the chamber, Mr D. Seymour, has issued a statement in which he says it was obvious from the beginning that any sectional interests which could capture the control of the Unemployment Board would apply its resources to its own advantage. It is now clear, he says, that the manufacturing interests* probably in collusion with the representatives of labour, have been able to do so.

Mr Seymour declares the action of the board to be " as ludicrous as it is tragic from the farmer's point of view." The farmer was struggling to find foreign markets for his goods, and the only terms on which he could sell were that he should buy foreign goods. His compulsory contribution to the funds of the Enemployment Board was now to be used in a propaganda campaign to show how very foolish he was in not buying New Zealand goods.
