AERO CLUB

TE AWAMUTU MEETING

The president, Mr E. Bryant, occupied the chair at the monthly meeting of Te Awamutu Aero Club last Thursday evening, and also present were'Messrs 0. G. Downes, A. Roach, J. B. Clifford, Wi lison, L. Harford, J. Oliphant, and Wilson. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs A. Hanna, A. A. Reese, and F. Waters. A vote of sympathy with Mr Keese in Ins recent bereavement was carried in silence, all standing. correspondence was received re an exhibition parachute descent bv lieutenant Haakon Qviller, under the auspices of the club when he is touring New Zealand.

An offer of a lecture to memDers and all interested in aviation by F ight-Officer Owen, who is touring New Zealand under the auspices of the Shell Oil Company, taking as his subject his recent flight from England to Australia, was received, and tentative arrangements were made. It is probable that the lecture will be given early in April, and members expressed keen interest in the visit.

The president reported a slight drop in the membership since the decision to increase the sma 1 subscription to a guinea; but the club's finances were steadily improving. He added that with an accession of twenty new members the much-desired model glider could be ordered.

A very interesting paper on " Ascending Air Currents," was read hv Mr Clifford, followed by extracts from " The Sailplane " on gliding. It was decided to make application to the Borough Counci for a grant toward the cost of erecting a hangar, and generally for fostering aviation. A similar application will be made to the Waipa County Council. Accounts totalling £1 9s were passed for payment.
