PETROL TAX REVENUE
LARGER SHARE FOR BOROUGS% AND CITIES. .. **M * (By Telegraph. Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Friday. One of the main questions discussed' at the quarterly meeting of the executive committee of the Municipal Association to-day was that of the increased petrol tax. It was stated ' afterwards that the executive was greatly concerned with the fact that no allowance was being made for the boroughs and cities to participate in the increased revenue of 3d a gallon. The feeling throughout the Do- ; minion was that the 8 per cent which- • was allowed cities and boroughs under the old petrol tax was ridiculously small in view of the fact that over 90 per cent of the tax was collected in the cities and boroughs. That they should receive no share of the additional tax, the greater part - of which would still be collected from cities and boroughs, was considered manifestly unfair, and the hope was expressed that the Government would.. reconsider the whole matter.
