SAVINGS LOST IN FIRE

£IOB IN NOTES LEFT IN CAMP (By Telegraph. Press Association.) TE AROHA, Friday. Four drainage contractors, Messrs Bails (2), Gayak and Sutich, suffered heavy loss when their whare on the Chudleigh estate was burned to the ground between 2 and 3o’clock on Wednesday afternoon. The men left for their work after dinner, and knew nothing of their misfortune until a passer-by informed them that their house was ablaze. As they had been working some distance away they had received no warning of the outbreak and on reaching the whare they found it a smoking ruin. ' Notes to the value of £IOB, the results of careful saving in anticipation of the forthcoming race meeting, had been burnt, together with all their personal efforts, which included four new suits and some valuable watches. A conservative estimate of their loss would be £2OO. The fire is thought to have started in the galley where the men had cooked their dinner.
