WAIPA RUGBY UNION

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. The usual weakly meeting the Wj.iipa Rugby Union management committee was held oft Monday e'yeriing, Fr&sbht, d. G. B. Gifford, F/Tickelpenny* €r,_ Jeffs, . A. A. Reese, ;J. Williams, G._ Reynolds, R. Califs, W. Whitt-on, and the secretary, Mh dl. T. Haselden. , An apology for absence, Whs received from Mr F. Quin, president. Mr Gifford was voted to the chair, j Discussion arose over the report of; the classifier, Mr Reese, who gave a definite redcmmdndation in favour of declaring the following as seniors F. Hagen, W, Pollard, C. Pollard, W. Lee, N. Cruickshank, C. CruickshMik, B. Turner, j. Jamieson (Kor'akhnui), A. Jackson, R. Jackson, R. Pkrish, J* Mate, L. Kingi, D. Mauiiohooho, Xurth, R. Carlaw and H. -Armstrong (Mangahoe), L. Broughton (Rovers), J. Turney, R. Sinclair, -Brill, L. Spiers, W. Johnstone i(Te Awamutu), G. Woolston, P. Grace,, J. Askew (Karamu), A. Murray, -G. Balme (United). In addition he/s’uggested that the following be advised to seek senior honours next season, but that they be not definitely, declared seniors: J. Batty, F. .Johnson, G. Wylde, W. Clarke, W, Uraig (United), T. Wendam and T. Brown (Royers), J. Johnson (Koyakonui). - The recommendations occasioned a good deal of discussion and explanation, and finally the classifier’s report was unanimously adopted. The opinion was advanced that these players, the best of the juniors, will be an accession} to the senior grade, and the fact that so many are going up means that they will nextyear be playing with and against players of their own calibre. It may lessen the average weight of a senior team but that would be compensated for by other attributes. Further, there are a score or more of good juniors who this year did not get a chance to represent Waipa, and who will very probably be even better players next season. All the players named have played with distinct credit this season, and it is predicted that next! season some of them will have to be seriously considered for senior rep. 'honours. That was precisely the case four years ago, when, though not so many juniors were promoted by the Union, a lot voluntarily elected to play as seniors. Pi, was felt that declai*ation now was preferred to waiting for the new season, as players and club managers could make their plans accordingly. The question was* raised as to the advisability of arranging some social function at which the important trophies won during the season should be handed over, but decision was deferred until next week’s meeting, which, will be held on Tuesday evening. The treasurer stated that when all claims are paid the insurance fund will he smaller by over £lO than was the case at the end of last season. A statement of the'' general fund will be available at next week’s meeting. • * The matter of removing the fences from alongside the playing areas on Albert Park, to make, room for cricket and other sports, was left in the hands of M‘r Reynolds.
