AUCKLAND SOCIETY'S ENDEAVOURS. SPECIAL REGULATIONS FOR ARAPUNI LAKE. It may not be generally known — indeed, it is doubtful if more than, say, half a dozen of the most ardent fishermen in the whole of Te Awamutu district know —that at the last meeting of the council of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society the following decisions respecting fishing regulations were come to: — That the Marine Department be asked to gazette thejollowing' regulations to control trout fishing in the Auckland acclimatisation district. - 1. That the season for fishing be from Ist October, 1928, to 30th April, 1929, both days inclusive. 2. No person shall on any one day take or kill more than fifteen trout; and no person shall continue to fish for trout on any day on which he has already taken or killed fifteen trout. 3. No person shall fish for, take, or kill trout between the hours of 10 p.m. on any one day and 4 a.m. on £be following day. 4. During the period from the Ist day" of October, 1928, to the. 30th day of September, 1929, it shall be unlawful to take trout by any means whatsoever in the tributaries of the Waihou, known as. the Waiomou and the Little Waipa Streams, and all tributaries thereof. 5. That no daily, weekly, or Halfyearly licenses be issued. 6. That the use of any kind of fish ova as a bait or lure shall be a breach of the regulations. 7. That the following words of regulation 9 be deleted, " In that portion of the Waihou River above Okoroire." 8. That regulation 19 be deleted and the following substituted, " That it be a condition of the issue of licenses that where the holder of a license has been found guilty of a' breach of the Act, or of any regulations thereunder, the court may, if it thinks fit, revoke his license either wholly or. for such period as it thinks fit." SPECIAL REGULATIONS FOR ARAPUNI LAKE.

1. The general regulations for trout fishing in the Auckland acclimatisation district shall apply, with the following additions and exemptions:— (a) No trolling from a launch or boat shall be allowed in any portion of the lake or in the Wjaikato River as far south as the junction of the boundary of the Auckland acclimatisation listrict and the Rotorua acclimatisation district.

(b) No person shall, in fishing for trout in any portion of the lake, use any lure or bait other than natural or artificial fly, artificial minnow, or some form of spoon bait, provided that no spinning fly, lure, or bait other than the artificial fly shall be used from a point eighty chains above the dam down to the spillway. (c) No person shall, in fishing for trout in any portion of the lake wherein artficial fly, artificial minnow, or some form of spoon bait are not prohibited by these regulations, useany fly, minnow, or spoon bait which is of greater length than two and one half inches.
