BOROUGH COUNCIL

FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. 1 GENERAL BUSINESS TRANSACTED. The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Te Awamutu Borough Council was held on Monday evening, when tnere were present, Crs G. Spinleyi (Deputy Mayor, in the chair), W. J.*V North, C. Bygrave, W. Swain, J. Mar-%< shall, J. G. B. Gifford, C. A. Reilly, and J. C. Montefiope. The Town Clerk (Mr D. Bockett) and Boroughi Engineer (Mr W. D. R.. McCurdie) were in attendance. The borough solicitors advised having applied to the District Land Registrar to issue a certificate of title to allotment 100 (the library site at the back of Holmes Bros’ new garage) but he had replied that as the only existing survey is dated 1878 he requires a fresh survey to be made and a plan to be lodged at the expense of the Council.—Referred to engineer. An applicant for assistance from the seWeragte loan offered to pay in six monthly instalments the cost of installing sewerage connections in his residence. —Accepted. A request to confer with the Council on the (subject of preparing a town planning scheme was received from Mr R. B. Hammond, late Government di- • rector of town planning.—lt was decided to write suggesting a suitable date. The Town Clerk reported, m connection with the transfer of the Ohaupo road area to the Waipa County Council, that the Borough Council owes the county £IO3B. To pay this amount it would be necessary to issue a debenture for £IOOO. —The clerk was instructed to take the necessary steps in this direction. Cr Reilly asked if it was true that some of the struts supporting the water pipe line on the slopes of Pirongia had been burned, and there was danger of a section of the line lapsing.—The engineer said he had had no reports to this effect, but on his suggestion it was decided to instruct. Mr Harwood to carefully insnect the full length of line as soon as possible. Cr Bygrave reported that the rubbish dump was very unsightk*—worse than it was before. . A carter who was alleged _ to have not complied with the Council’s direction is to be called upon to remove the offending rubbish.
