WAIPA RUGBY UNION

MEETING OF MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. SOME, IMPORTANT DECISIONS. The management committee held its weekly meeting last night Mr F. Quin presiding, and also present were Messrs H. Mabbett, W. Whitten, G. Reynolds, G. W. Mairs, G. B. Melrose, H. T. Haselden, W. Cavanagh, G. Jeffs J. W. Williams' and L O. Morgan (secretary). Referees’ reports of last Saturday’s games were received. Four previous Puahue players who were alleged to have had jerseys the property of the Puahue Club attended to explain their version of the matter. R. Crozier explained that he had returned the jersey last year and had placed it in a letter box, which he supposed belonged to Mr Cavanagh. This was at the request of Mr Cavanagh. J. Coyne said, that he had held the jersey pending , a call from Mr Cavanagh. This was with Mr Cavanagh’s knowledge. W. Corboy said that he did not know he had to return the jersey. He had the jersey in his possession and was quite willing to return it. Several other jerseys were returned.

Mr Melrose moved that the explanations be accepted and no further action be taken.—Agreed to. TRANSFER OF PLAYERS.

A deputation from the Cambridge Rugby Union consisting of Mr Cray (president), V. G. Boulton (secretary) and G. Rouse (secretary of the Kaipaki Club) waited, on the committee. Mr Gray explained that his Union was endeavouring to place four teams in the senior competition. He would appreciate the favour, if Waipa would allow certain players in Waipa territory to play for Kaipaki under the Cambridge Union. Mr Melrose wanted to know who their players were. Mr Boulton explained that Cambridge did not want to filch any of Waipa’s territory, either this year or next year. He pointed out that it was not a question of any alteration of boundaries.

Mr Rouse, said that Kaipaki had recently formed a club. Several had last year played for Ohaupo. The Ohaupo club was now defunct. Several names were handed in of players who all played either for Ohaupo juniors or third grade and were now desirous of playing for Kaipaki under the Cambridge Rugby Union. Mr Quin wanted to know how many lived close handy to Kaipaki. It was shown that they were practically all within 3 miles of Walker’s Gully, the boundary line. Mr Mairs pointed out that Cambridge had a much bigger population than Te .Awamutu, and had Saturday half holiday. Mr Quin said Waipa’s territory was much bigger than Cambridge’s, but the population was very scattered. Mr Quin, to test the meeting, moved that the following be given permission to play under the Cambridge Rugby Union for one season only:— Death (2), Bromwich, L. Davis. Tye, Bones, Catchnole (2), H. Kite, Kivell, Cowley (2), Walsh and Scott. An amendment was proposed in favour of granting permission to the last seven only for the present season. —This was agreed to. On being informed of the decision, Mr Cray thanked the Union for its action. He said it was hoped to make four senior teams in Cambridge Union, and he hoped for good results. The arrangement though not all that was hoped for, was very acceptable. If any other players on the borderline about whom there was a doubt, .deseed to play for Cambridge, application would be made. VARIOUS ITEMS. Mr Boulton asked for an early vsiit of the Waipa- junior rep. team. He joined in thanks for “the _ sporting spirit” displayed by the Waipa Union which was only an exemplification of the good feeling between the two unions that had existed for several years. „ Mr Cavanagh announced that ruahue and Parawera junior players had arranged to combine under the title of Mangahoe team. There was no prospect otherwise of getting strong enough teams. Mr Mairs said Korakonui Club had not decided whether to enter one or two teams as juniors. It all depended on the third grade weight limit. Mr Reese quoted Cambridge Union’s decision on the point, viz: That there be no weight limit for players under 18 years of age on May Ist; plavers must, if 18 years of age or over at May Ist. weigh no more than lOst (as they play) when officially weighed out prior to their first game. Mr Haselden claimed that any decision on that score would have to be by a general meeting of the Union. Mr Mabbett said he would like to see a third-grade competition and a fourth grade too. Mr Mairs then gave notice to move in accord with Cambridge’s decision, excent that the weight limit for youths 18 years and over be lOst 71bs. —The motion will be dealt with next week. , , . . j. It was decided to obtain prices for two sets of ren. jerseys (white). Mr A. A. Reese was unanimously appointed junior rep. selector. A donation of 10s 6d from Mr G. S. Clarke, through the United. Club, was accepted with thanks, and Mr Clark will be forwarded a card admitting him to all Union matches. It was explained that all donors of £1 Is or more to clubs are granted similar privileges, provided half the donation is forwarded bv the club to the Union. It was decided to meet again next Tuesdav evening. Mr Reese was appointed to classify junior players. . . Ticfcrsos wove disked to insist on team cards being handed to them before games commence, and to renorf players not turning out in their own club colours. , It was decided that all affiliation fees must b° paid on or before Sat r iwlav, sth Mav. before the nlav starts and similarly insurance fund payments.
