BALL AT TOKANUI

HOSPITAL STAFF’S ANNUAL EVENT. The event, of tbei year, so far as Te Awamutu and district is concerned, in a isocia'l sense, was the ball given by the superintendent and staff of Tokanui mental hospital last Thursday evening at the institution. Despite the very wet weather 'there weire well over 400 guests present and the scene that met their view as they entered the large ball room was one at once pleasing an}d enticing for the hall was a veritable fairyland, the judicious use of coloured streamers, garlands of greenery and flowers, and coloured ejetetric lights, betokened the work of enthusiastic experts in decorative effects. The floor also had been given .special attention, and that, combined with the 'excellent music dispensed by a special orchestra under Mr G'. Dalton., ensured for dancelovers a very fine evening’s enjoyment. Messrs H. Morris and P. .Riordan were the masters cf otlremonies, and they carried out thelir important duties capably—indeed they were both very busy men both before null while the ball was on. The programme of dances gave an attractive range, with due provision for those who prefer the older favourites to the modern age. Supplementing the efforts of the orhestra were enjoyable extras by Mrs ,A. J. Taiilby, and the Misses White, Clifford and Worth. Dr. McPherson, (the superintendent) and his staff, particularly the matron (Miss Hamm el), and Messrs A. White (electrician) and A. Brown, liril a hearty greeting for their many guests, and everything that would tend to the thorough enjoyment of all was provided fori The; supper arrangements weire complete,, and a most tasteful and bountiful repast was served. Altogether the Hospital Ball, was, as • stated, a complete success and’ a distinct credit to all concerned, not forgetting the committee and its enthusiastic and capable secretary, Mr R. Riordan.
