While in ‘tlhe vicinity of the City, Markets at 11.40 last night, Constable Allan could plainly smell wood buna;: ing. He decided to investigate and found t'h.at the large Ashling launch ’Ruby, which wais moored a't Ithe Nelson Street wharf, was on fire. Just as he climbed on boajrd flames leapt up from the cockpit. He discovered that the mainsail and a quantity of 'rove, as well .as some sacks, were well ablaze. 'T'h|e constable found a bucket in the cabin, and, attaching a length of rope to it, managed to secure enough water to quench tlhe outbreak. The launch, which is a valuable one, was slightly damaglsd It is own'ed. by Mr Edward Mansfield.
