Under its present by-law s the City Council 'has certain power to deal ■with premises .where food is purveyed to l the public, such as restaurants, hotels, tearooms, etc. but a new bylaw ihas been prepared which will give the city authority extended powers over other premises connected vehicle or receptacle in which food is 'law i s to come up fo r confirmation on,October 28.

Jie by-law states that after Nover 6 1926 k '>no person shall use •premises as a hairdresser's flop in the city unles such premise are registered in accordance with the provisions of the by-law. After : the passing of the bylaw used for the following purposes mus't be registered: —As a bakehouse, for the storage or saile of bread"or pastry, for the storage or. sale of or the bonling, curing, canning, salting, mincing or olhdr process of'preparation of meat or fat of animals or of poultry or fish for human food, for the storage or sale Jot' fruit '.or . vegetables, for the manufacture, preparation .storage, or sale of, ice cream or ices, cordials syrups, aerated waters, or beverages. After application in 'writing has a certificate of registrar tion MiU be (issued and it shall remain'in force'until March 31 and then next ensuing, and sjhall require renewal oh April 1 lin each year. Fo r every certificate )of registration issued the applicant shall pay the council a fee of 10s. Where any premises are used for'more than ond of the purposs mentioned a separate application shall be made for each purpose, but the applicant shall, not be called upon to pay more than one license fee. The council may at any, time, after-'giving- notied in writing, stating its reasons, cancel the registration. ..; ,

Where any person who is nsing any premises for any of the purposes mentioned ceases to use such .premies for any such'purpose or djspose s of the premises to any other person, he must, withlm seven days, give* notice 16 tbe, Snspector'in writing. One. clause 1 ; of the by-law states that no person: shall' sell or offer or expose for sale any food in any public place or outside any premises or in any open doorway or in any pilace which may be exposed to possible contamination unless such food is compiletely and securely enclosed in an envelope or covering in such manner as effectually 'to protect the) food from dust dirt, damp, and flies, and ofchier unwholesome matter. Where any focd is offered for sale, from or conveyed in any vehicle it shall be a sufficient compliance with the provisions of the law if it is fitted with a fixed frame of approved material on not less than three sides and provehicle or receptacle in which food is contained or carried for the purposes of salei ejhall alt all times ibe kept clean and no article which might contaminate focd shall be'placed therein. Finally, the by-law provides that no certttficate of registration or license shall be transferable, 'and immediately the issue of the certificate it must be affixed in some conspicuo'us place to which the public have access.
