OPIUM SMUGGLING
INDIAN FINED £25. (By Telegraph. Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. Haran Gopal, an Indian fruiterer, who landed in Wellington from the Marama yesterday, pleaded guilty at the Magistrate’s Court to-day to being in possession of prohibited goods. When his baggage was searced the customs officer found 4i lbs of solid opium, valued at £25, in a pillow. He was fined, £25. Another Indian, Vasan Bhika, who was similarly charged, was remanded until to-morrow.
