ST. JOHN AMBULANCE
NOT PROPERLY APPRECIATED. (By Telegraph. Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. “I want to draw the public's attention the great work which the iSt. John Ambulance is doing,” said the Governor-General at the annual meeting of the Wellington centre. "It is -our familiarity with it that accounts for our lack of interest,” continued his Excellency. “If you pointed out to the man on the street the ready help that is always available at public gatherings, he would not he able to tell you! how this came about or of the people who gave up hours’ of their time for the purpose of aiding suffering humanity. Supposing something abnormal, such as an earthquake or an epidemic, occurred in Wellington, think what an advantage it would be to the community if there were available a large extension of the present St. John organisation! I do not like to make comparisons, but I see that in Auckland there are two St. John ambulances, and I find it surprising that Wiel'lington, as capital city has not yet this necessary equipment:”
