BIG LIBEL ACTION
OVER ELECTION METiHODS. (By Telegraph. Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Mr Hall Skelton, giving evidence in his libel action, said when he "was about to enlist he received a telegram from' Sir James Allen begging him to carry on with the work he had been doing recruiting and in the National Reserve.- Explaining the effect of the alleged libel on him and his business, he said, (that after 1921 his business dwindled. He had been boycotted. Shown several documents said to have heen published by the Self-Determina-tion League! he replied that he did not believe they were official. He did not know much about' that organisation. His Honor remarked witness went away to represent ft. In reply to a question by counsel as to how much money he got out of it, witness thought about £IOOO.
In reply to the Judge, Skelton said a man like Collins* had placated , a strong section of the' Republicans opposed to his views. Collins had told him lth.is was the attitude he adopted. The case will be resumed to-day.
