BOROUGH SAND PIT
ALL SAND REQUIRED FOR PUBLIC PURPOSES. It was stated at the Borough Council meeting last night that to date £lO7 had been received from sales of sand from the borough pit. Cr Monte’fiore commented, that this was a very satisfactory revenue,, but the town clerk stated that more than this amount had been 'expfetded in stripping and keeping the pit]dean. Cr Downes said he would tot like the supply cut off from builder's. as it was unwise to restrict bpildSlig operations in the borough. The town clerk stated that there were other private pits in the borough. ICr Mobtefiore asked .if the sand used for the streets improvement plan Avas charged against the loan moneysWhen informed that this was not being done, he contended that there was a promise given Avhen the pit was purchased that the sand would be charged against loan, and thus the original outlay would be recouped. He
Avas quite definitely of this opinion. The foregoing remarks followed the reading of the engineer’s report recommending the closing of the pit, ■except for borough council purposes.
