GAOL ESCAPEE
EXEMPLARY PUNISHMENT INFLICTED.
TAUMARUNUI, Friday. Clarence Amos Woods, who was recaptured, recently after escaping from Makatote prison camp, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, with hard labour, by Magistrate Orr-Walk-er, who said the sentence should be a warning to others.
Accused at present is serving two years for abduction, having taken a young girl from her home near Taihape. some few months ago. They were eventually overtaken when making the journey on horseback through rough country towards Hawke’s Bay.
