WAIPA RETAIN WHITE HORSE CUP.

DEFEAT OF RODNEY IN FINAL.

The country week hockey tournament at the Remuera grounds was concluded yesterday afternoon in ideal weather. Waipa retaining "possession of the White Horse Cup by defeating Rodney by 2 goals 'to 1 in the final round. In contrast to its muddy condition on the two previous days, the ground was dry, although somewhat bumpy, and the players were able to do themselves full justice. ’ The other teams in the competition played two interesting games, Tau,ranga drawing with Franklin and Piako beating Whangarei. Because of its importance the match between Waipa and Rodney claimed most attention from the spectators, and a fine game was witnessed. Setting up a very determined and sustained attack in the first half the holders of the cup secured two goals through Tarr and Finch, and Ted by this margin at the interval. A goal by Goertz in thie second half raised Rodney’s hopes. However, the Waipa forwards kept the ball well up-field for the remainder of a strenuous spell, and scored a well-deserved' victory. Detailed results of yesterday's games are:—

Waipa 2 (Tarr 1, Finch 1), beat Rodney 1 (Goertz). Piako 2 (Harkness 1, IHaStie 1)> beat Whangarei 1 (Morgan). Tauranga 2 (Mc'Cready 2) drew with Franklin 2 (Turner 1, Garland 1). The positions of the teams at the conclusion of the White Horse Cup
