There was a sensation in ‘..Ward Street. Hamilton, vesterd.ay, widen an explosion occurred in a shop ; ’occupied by Mr R. Irvine, dyer and cleaner. ‘Mr Irvine was using an oil Stove when it exploded with great force, bursting out the front window of the shop and scattering the splintered glass for some distance, besides badly burning Mr Irvine’s bands. A fire followed which, however, was quickly suppressed, by the fire brigade, most of the stock being saved.
