SCIENCE CONGRESS

MEETING IN DUNEDIN. (By Telegraph. Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Wednesday. One of the most important of the many gatherings taking place in Dunedin during the Exhibition period will be the biennial science congress of the New Zealand Institute, which is to commence on January 28th, and which will sit for three or more days. Dr. P. Marshall, Who was professor of geology at Otago University for many years, will give his address as president of the New Zealand Institute on the first evening of the congress. There will be six sections in the congress, and they will meet separately for the discussion of papers on their particular branches of science. Then there will be discussion bgtween the various sections on various economic problems of importance to New Zealand. Public scientific lectures will be given. The first will be a lecture by Professor Farr, professor of physics at Canterbury College, on “The story of the universe—a study of the gene-' ral scheme of astronomical evolution.” The second lecture will be by Dr. P. H. Buck, of the Auckland District Health Office, on “The coming of the Maori.” The congress, which is the fourth of its kind to be held in New Zealand, is expected to attract an attendance from various parts of New Zealand, and also a number of scientists from Australia.
