SWIMMING

TE AWAMUTU CLUB. A meeting of the committee of the Te Awamutu Swimming Club was held last evening, Mr S. A. Empson presiding. The secretary reported that Mr J. Middled rook had kindly donated a handsome silver cup for competition among members of the Club. The cup is at present being engraved and would .be placed on exhibition as soon as completed. It was decided amidst applause that the secretary write Mr Middlebrook expressing the Club’s appreciation of his generous donation, which should do much to, encourage swimming in Te Awamutu. It was further decided that the trophy be known as “The Middlebrook Challenge Cup,” for which a series of handicap events will be conducted each season, the winner being the competitor gaining the most points. Further dis'cussion on the rules was ad-i journed until next meeting. Other matters of importance were dealt with and it is anticipated that the Club will experience a very successful season.
