OTOROHANGA NEWS

Overheard in, the tram: "If • the Parliamentary candidate, put a handful of nails in his pocket of a morning, he would probably find them all turned into screws by night-time." Half the shearing has been done at "Chindi" (Mr Oudaille's) and this means about 40 bales. It is expected that .the full shearing will produce, say, from 75 to 80 bales, the flock numbering over 4000. • / The Hockey Club's dance held in the Town Hall last nightnvas one of the most successful and enjoyable of the seaon. Swift's (Te Kuiti)- most efficient jazz orchestra was a feature of the evening. Mr A. E. Cooke was M.C. and everything went smoothly and satisfactorily. Mr W. J. Broadfoot, the National candidate for Waitomo, gave .a halfhour's address in front of the Town Hall last evening. He was listened to attentively, but no vote of thanks or confidence was passed. Mr Broadfoot went on to Otewa to address a meeting there and was accorded a good and unbiassed hearing. He will give • his final address at Te Kuiti to-night and will, probably have a packed audience. The general opinion is that the contest for the Waitomo seat will be a very close one.
