OTOROHANGA NEWS

The monthly meeting of the Otorohanga Town Board which should have been held this evening, has been postponed v,till Saturday night. It is understood that a deputation intends waiting on the Board to ascertain where the public come in with regard to the use of and accommodation in the hall irrespective of picture rights. Very heavy rain fell yesterday afternoon and continued all through the night. The Waipa is higher this morning than it has been for the past four years, while many of the streams have flooded their adjacent country. Messrs McAdam and Co. have purchased Mr C. Moon's premises in Tuhbro Street and intend using them as a store for hardware, etc. This makes the seventh addition to the company's accommodation within the last two years and is indicative! of the rapid expansion of its business. Our postmaster (Mr Roche) has received notice of his transfer to Papakura. Mr Roche has been here about eighteen months during which time he has proved a most efficient and conscientious officer and both he and Mrs Roche will- be missed in social circles.

Our main street becomes very congested with motor cars, etc., on market days and consequently through traffic has to be conducted very carefully. It is suggested that the Town Board should create "parking" places in the side streets so that the main thoroughfare can be kept more or less clear. Ballance, Tuhoro and Kanawa Street would lend themselves to this purpose. ■ .
