WAIKATO ROYAL SHOW

EXPENSE TOO GREAT. ' At a meeting of the general committee of the' Whikato Agricultural and Pastoral Association last'month it’ was resolved to make Strong efforts to have the 1925 Royal Show held in Hamilton, and in this connection to solicit the support of other agricultural and pastoral associations in the South Auck-» land district. As a result the secretary was instructed to make application to the Royal Show Committee accordingly-

(At a meeting of the executive on Thursday 'Mr Pi R. Seddon, who was not present at .the meeting when the resolution was carried, said that he could not support the application for a Royal Show, and moved that, it be withdrawn. The Waikato Association had no chance of conducting a Royal Show in a satisfactory manner, hot having the requisite buildings. The Palmerston North and Christchurch Associations were well supplied with accommodation in comparison with Hamilton, and in addition Christchurch was spending £16,000 on its showgrounds this year. The expense of a Royal Show would be too great for the Waikato Association, and he felt sure that exhibitors from the South Island woiild not come north to exhibit at a Royal .Show at Hamilton. Mr T. -Clarkin said the Waikato Association was capable of running the show at Hamilton, and he did not think the application should be withdrawn. The president (Mr W Newell) remarked that it had been suggested that temporary buildings could be erected. It had been decided to make application for the Royal Show on. the strength of support from outside associations. The application could be withdrawn and a fresh one lodged if the association thought fit to do so. Mr W. J. McKee thought it more satisfactory to withdraw the application, and moved accordingly. He added that the Waikato Association was not in a position to hold a Royal Show and had no prospects of support from kindred associations. The application was withdrawn without .prejudice.
