APPRECIATION

OF TE AWAMUTU MUNICIPAL BAND.

Mr J. Findlay, hon. secretary of the Te Awamutu Municipal Band, has received the following letter from Mr Thos. S. Kyne, of Waikato Hospital: On behalf of the patients of the Waikato Hospital I wish to thank the members of your band for the splendid programme rendered here by them on Sunday afternoon, November 16th, and to express appreciation of the spirit which prompted your men to travel so far, in threatening weather, to provide entertainment for us. Their fine playing was highly appreciated by all, and expressions of gratitude were heard from patients, staff and visitors alike for the musical treat provided by the Te Awamutu bandsmen. Such entertainment as that given on Sunday does much to brighten the lot of the patients here, many of whom (have to spend long periods in hospital, where, although they are most kindly and attentively cared for by the finest hospital staff in the world, their afflictions naturally preclude them from most of the ordinary pleasures of life. To these particularly a “band Sunday” is a very great joy indeed, and most eagerly looked forward to. I will not be deviating from the truth either by telling you that, notwithstanding the fact that their gratitude is deep and sincere to all who go to great trouble in providing entertainment for them, the patients have a particular regard for the Te Awamutu bandsmen. They realise the care and practice necessary in the preparation of your programmes and the amount of trouble it takes in conveying the members of the band, and equipment, to Hamilton and back; also the spirit of unselfishness and thought for others displayed by your men in travelling a distance of forty miles for the benefit and entertainment of the sick.' For thanks, and in the forthcoming conall this we express the most hearty test for which your men are now preparing, they have the best wishes for success from the patients of the Waikato Hospital.
