WAIKATO MARKET REPORT. The Farmers' Co-op Auctioneering do. Ltd., report as follows on the Waikato market for the week ending October 23rd:— Beef: Competition is everywhere keen and the demand steady. Mutton: The mutton market still remains quiet and the business transacted is of small proportion. Store Cattle: Activity still continues in the store cattle market, but there is evidence of an easing tendency. More especially is this applicable to heifers which have been coming forward in good numbers. Forward steers are in strong demand hut backward con litioned cattle have slightly declined. Good framed fresh cows are perhaps in higher favour than any other class in the store section. Store sheep: Business in this branch is somewhat restricted owing to the lack of suitable lines for sale. A good demand exists but for the above reason is not easy to satisfy. Dairy cattle are in keen demand at all centres. Pigs: Brick business has been done in this branch up to the present. Values are exceedingly firm and inclined to improve. The high prices ruling at the yards have forced the bacon companies far in advance of their opening quotations, and even at present figures some ,of those operating have found it difficult to obtain supplies. At Waihou yards on Friday values were fully lOd per lb. It is unlikely, however, that these high rates will long continue. Horses: The Hikutaia sale just concluded was most satisfactory from a vendor's standpoint—recent values being fully maintained. We quote as follows: Bullocks, heavy prime £ll 10s to £ls 15s. medium £lO 10s to £l2; cows, heavv young £9 to £ll 10s, medium £5 10s to £7 15s, forward £3 10s to £4 10s: steers, 4 year forward £5 15s to £7 10s', stores £4 15s to £5 ss; cows, stores 30s to £2 17s 6d; steers, 3 year best £4 10s to £5 ss; springing heifers, 2 year Jersey £l2 to £ls, 3 year Shorthorn £8 10s to £l2; empty 3 year Holstein £8 10s to £l2; empty heifers. 2 year best Shorthorn £3 to £3 15s, medium £2 7s 6d to £2 15s; steers 2 year best Shorthorn £3 15s to £4 ss. medium £3 2s 6d to £3 12s 6(1; yearling heifers, best Shorthorn £2 5s to £3.
