COAL MINING TROUBLE.
SETTLEMENT IN SIGHT. CONFERENCE TO MEET AT REEFTON. (By Telegraph. —Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Monday. The mining trouble on the West Coast continues, but it is understood that the Minister for Labour and Mining (the Hon. J. G. Anderson) will leave Wellington this evening for Reefton with a view to meeting the parties to the dispute. From information gathered it appears that a little over a week ago the Minister was interviewed by a deputation of Labour members of Parliament on the subject, and that he informed them that if he were asked by either side to intervene he would agree to do so. Last Monday several Labour members, together with prominent representatives of the West Coast miners unions, interviewed Mr Anderson, and it is understood that at their request he promised to approach the mine owners. 4s a result, an informal discussion took place on Thursday and Friday, hetween the representatives of each side the Minister being in the chair. On Friday night the miners' representatives left for the West Coast to place before the men the proposals which were discussed at the meeting with the Minister. . \ further conference is to take place at Reefton, and it is hoped that as a result the trouble will be settled.
