HAPPY FOLK COMPANY. The good impression which the Happy Folk Company are creating throughout the towns of the Auckland Province makes them stand out as one of the best little companies that have yet toured New Zealand. The African scene is said to be one of the most gorgeous yet presented and Chief 800 800 and his Boola Boola Girls, with their catchy songs and dances are exceptionally clever. Mr John Larkins takes the part of Chief 800 800 and his exposition of the part is very ably carried out. Miss Ivy Darrell is a little lady from Sydney and her turn is one of the best musical acts yet seen. She presents a refined vocal and instrumental offering and introduces The Saucer Xylophone and other musical varieties. Miss J. Lee-Smith is the possessor of a fine dramatic soprano voice and her rendering of I'sle d'Amor will at once please the most critical audience. Miss Jewell Dorrie is also from Sydney and is a little dancer soubrette who will dance her way into the hearts of her audience at once. Mr Edward Mauls is an English baritone of high rank and will find favour. Miss Jeanette Hawthorne, the pianist of the company, is a Cherniavsky pupil, and an artist of high standing, and her solo work is really worth while and she thoroughly deserves all credit. Her rendering of Paul Wach's "Caprieante" is full of sympathy and artistic feeling. The comedian of the company, Mr John Larkins, with his always beaming smileand infections laugh, is really a treat to listen to and he has laughed himself into 16 stone of real fun and he will never cure his condition until someone does away with his laugh. The Press say: "That is impossible. He sings 'I Love Me,' and has his audience simmering with •laughs right through the whole entertainment."

"JAZZMANIA." AN ELABORATE FILM. "Jazzmania" is the title of the latest photoplay in which Robert Z. Leonard will present Mae Murray, and in it the popular star has more opportunities for histrionic and costume display than has yet fallen to her lot in the pictures she has made. The new Metro photoplay is scheduled for presentation on Wednesday next, September 12th, at the Empire Theatre. Miss Murray's new picture is partly a costume play. The star is seen as the Queen of a Balkan kingdom which is beset by enemies. A revolution is impending; and she flees to America, Her love of novelty makes her an ardent lover of jazz; and when a former subject advises her to return to her country to rescue the women and children who are being maltreated, she decides to go back. She rescues the kingdom and turns it into a republic, where jazz keeps Madame President and her subjects in good humour. Of course there is a love story involved—more than one, as a matter of fact. With such a quartet of handsome actors as Rod La Rocque, Robert Frazer, Edward Burns and PJean Hersholt, Miss Murray will make more than one feminine heart beat with envy. And all are exceptionally fine actors, too. Patrons are notified that this great feature will be screened promptly at eight o'clock.
